Description of the attraction

In the village of Siversky, Gatchinsky district, there is a unique historical and household museum "Country Capital". It was opened in 1992 thanks to the personal initiative of Valentina Vladimirovna Yudina and the help of local historian and historian Andrei Burlakov in the building of an old estate of the late 19th century.

The exposition of the museum tells about the life of vacationers, the life of summer residents, who, for the most part, were representatives of the middle class and high society of St. Petersburg. The museum has several rooms where you can learn about the history of the village, about the dacha life before and after the revolution, see works of art associated with Siversky. Most of the exhibits were donated to the museum by local residents. Now you can visit thematic halls: "Siverskaya through the eyes of artists", "Country life until October 1917", "Siverskaya - the country of pioneers", "Siverskaya as a health center in the Soviet era", "Estate of the Gatchina region", "Country kitchen". In addition, the museum staff can conduct walking tours around the village of Siversky, and bus tours around the Gatchinsky district.

In the middle to the end of the 19th century, Siversky was considered the real capital of summer residents. It was here that one of the very first railway stations was built for the convenience of tourists. There were 6 theaters in Siversky, in which the leading actors of the capital's theaters performed during the season. There were luxurious estates and mansions near the village. Only people with good income could afford to build a dacha in Siverskoye.

Over time, the former glory of the capital of summer residents faded. With the advent of Soviet power, rest houses, sanatoriums, and pioneer camps were located in luxurious mansions. Some of the villas have been redesigned as residential apartments. During the Second World War, German pilots lodged in the estate. In the 90s of the 20th century, part of the old buildings burned down during fires. This sad fate befell the estate of the writer Alexei Nikolaevich Tolstoy.

The Dachnaya Stolitsa Museum is located on Krasnaya Street (formerly Tserkovnaya Street) in the guest house of the estate of the German architect and painter Ivan Golmdorf. In 1910 the writer Ivan Ivanov bought the estate from him. Blok, Mayakovsky, Maikov, Saltykov-Shchedrin, Akhmatova, Chukovsky, Merezhkovsky, Gippius, Nadson, Bely came to visit here. While vacationing in Siverskoye, the great artists Ivan Shishkin wrote "Morning in a Pine Forest" and "Rye", and Ivan Kramskoy - "Mina Moiseev", "Peasant with a Bridle" and "Woodland Man".

At the beginning of the 20th century, the manor house housed the bedrooms of the pioneer camp. Later, the building housed the classrooms of the correctional school, which were there until 1988. Currently, work on the collection of items from the museum's exposition continues. The plans are to restore the original historical appearance of the estate.

Not far from the museum, on the mountain, there is Maikov's country house. In front of him is a large clearing. There are picturesque red sandstones across the Oredezh River. The river is clean and calm, and therefore you can safely swim here in summer. Nearby, on the way from the museum to the station, there is a unique natural water source - the Spring of Youth.
