Description of the attraction

A significant number of Crimea's attractions are hidden in the thickets of the Bear Mountain. It seems to be strewn with traces of antiquity. One of them is Isar Gorzuvity or Gorzuvity Fortress.

The ruins of the fortress have survived to this day and rest serenely on the famous Genevese Caya rock. As soon as the fortress of Gorzuvity was not used at different times: it served as a Byzantine coastal fortification in the 6th-8th centuries, a castle of feudal lords in the 13th century, a Genoese trading settlement from the end of the 14th to the 15th century, and in the 17th century - a guard bastion of the Turks.

The history of the famous resort Gurzuf dates back to the foundation of the Gorzuvity fortress. A millennium and a half ago, the port was buzzing about the recently built settlement; the houses of the first settlers of Isar Gorzuvita were crowded near the Bear Mountain.

At one time, the Gorzuvity fortress gave shelter to the Genoese, Taurus, Greeks, Goths and Khazars. This bastion was practically wiped off the face of the earth in the XIV century. Although the fortress was restored then, a century later it was finally destroyed by the Turks. Local residents took advantage of the stones that remained from her, building them for themselves dwellings.

The ruins, which were once a fortress and gave shelter and protection to many people, nowadays are located on the territory of "Artek" - an international children's camp. And not far from Isar Gorzuvity there is a Skalnaya hotel.
