Description of the attraction

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin is an Orthodox church located in the city of Byala in the southern part of the Varna region. It was erected in 1876. Legend has it that on the Christian feast of the Holy Mother of God, when the church was to be consecrated, the Turks sent their troops across the sea. They wanted to destroy the Orthodox church, thereby preventing its consecration. Suddenly, a strong snow storm began. The Turks took the sudden change in the weather as a sign from above and did not dare to disembark. So the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin remained intact.

The temple functioned until the 80s of the last century. Due to the lack of the necessary maintenance, the building was badly dilapidated. To restore the church, a fund was created, which by the summer of 2003 managed to collect the necessary funds. Generous donations made by local residents made it possible to realize the idea, which was to demolish the old building and build a new one in its place - from the bricks and stone blocks of the old church.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in Byala is a beautiful two-storey building made of stone and red brick, sometimes covered with white plaster. A bell tower rises above the narthex. The interior of the church is not inferior to its external appearance: here you can see a carved wooden iconostasis, icons made by skilled craftsmen and, of course, colorful wall paintings.
