The Azov Greek Museum is located in the center of the suburb of Mariupol - the village of Sartana. The museum contains an extremely rich exposition that tells about the life and culture of the Greeks from the time of their resettlement in 1778-80. from the Crimea, on the founding of new Greek settlements, the development of local territories, the development of the diaspora.
The foundation of the museum of history and ethnography of the Azov Greeks took place in 1987. Initially as a museum on a voluntary basis, and later as a folk museum. It became a branch of the Mariupol Museum in 1992. Since 1997 it bears its present name. The fascinating exposition is located on two floors, in six halls.
The exposition "History of the Greeks of the Azov region" reveals the events that took place in Ukraine and in Mariupol. The October Revolution and the civil war in the region, the coming of power to the Soviets, the famine of the 1920s and 1930s were reflected here. 20th century, political repression. The heroism of the Azov Greeks on the fronts of the Patriotic War and in the rear, their labor achievements in the difficult post-war period are clearly displayed. The exposition adequately presents the events that end the Soviet era and illustrate the appearance on the political map of a new power - Ukraine, achievements in various spheres of the development of the Azov Sea region today.
Museum staff are constantly working on replenishing materials for the museum's collection. Collections of arts and crafts are also on display. Much attention is paid to the cuisine of the Azov Greeks, many recipes have been collected and their collections have been published.
