Description of the attraction

The former imperial palace Gugong is located in the center of Beijing. In 1420, the construction of this magnificent palace was completed, which lasted 14 years. Even during the reign of the Mongol Yuan dynasty, this palace, located on an area of 72 hectares, became her residence. And now Gugun is considered one of the greatest palaces in the world.

Until now, no one has accurately calculated the cost of building this palace, but historical records tell us that materials for construction were delivered from everywhere, up to the most remote provinces of Guangdong and Yunnan, located thousands of kilometers from Beijing. A million workers and up to one hundred thousand craftsmen were hired to build the Gugun Palace.

The 24 emperors of the Qing and Ming dynasties ruled China from here, but this palace was closed to ordinary people for many centuries. And today, after the last emperor of China left the palace 75 years ago, it remains closed to curious tourists. Half of the Forbidden City, as before, is surrounded by an aura of mystery. A world cut off from life, strictly regulated, rich and magnificent, living its own life for several centuries.

Gugong Palace - the first of the sites in China - UNESCO included in the list of World Cultural Heritage. Red walls and yellow roofs can be seen from the height of the Coal Hill, located in the emperor's favorite park, while exploring the Forbidden City. These two colors - red and yellow - are the main colors of the Gugun Palace.

It is also worth visiting the pavilions of watches, jewelry and ceramics, as well as the painting exhibition. In addition, pavilions of art from the Minsk and Qing dynasties, bronze items and an exhibition hall with historical art values are of interest.

And three palace pavilions are obligatory for visiting: Complete Harmony - Zhonghedyan, Highest Harmony - Tanhedyan and Preservation of Harmony - Baohedian. Here you can admire artistic relics from various eras of China, get acquainted with the cultural heritage of the Chinese people. In addition, there are ancient artifacts and treasures of the emperors, such as a wonderful collection of puppets and clocks.
