Description of the attraction
The crescent house in Buxton was built in 1780-89. architect John Carr for the Duke of Devonshire. The Duke dreamed of turning Buxton into a popular resort, and since Bath was and remains one of the most popular resorts, it is not surprising that the crescent house was built on the model of the Bath Royal Crescent.
Opposite the Crescent House is St Anne's Well, the most famous and popular spring in Buxton, which reaches a temperature of 28 C.
On both sides of the Crescent House there is a hotel, rooms for taking mineral baths, etc.
The Crescent House itself, like its example in Bath, is a complex of several houses: a hotel, residential buildings and a large meeting room with beautiful paintings on the ceiling. For a long time this hall remained the center of Buxton's social and social life. On the first floor of the crescent there were shops, a hairdresser's, etc., in the basements there were kitchens.
Now the Crescent House is under restoration. After the completion of the renovation work, it should open a luxury five-star hotel and tourist center.
