Description of the attraction
At 49 Kramgasse Street in Bern, there is a house where the great scientist Albert Einstein lived with his family from 1903 to 1905. In 1900, Einstein graduated from the Zurich Polytechnic, and in 1901 he received Swiss citizenship, paying 1,000 francs for it. For a long time he could not find a job and was literally starving. Finally, in 1902, under the patronage of a friend, Einstein received a post in the Federal Patent Office, which examines and grants patents for various inventions. A stable income gives Einstein the opportunity to pursue science. In 1903 he married Mileva Maric, whom he had known since his student days, and they moved to this apartment on the second floor. It was here that Einstein lived in 1905, which entered his biography as the "Year of Miracles." This year, three articles were published that have made a real revolution not only in physics, but in all of science. These articles formed the basis of the theory of relativity and quantum theory.
The apartment is currently open to tourists. The interiors of that era have been recreated here, the apartment is furnished with furniture from the beginning of the 20th century, on the walls there are photographs of Einstein, his family and friends. The exposition tells about the life of the great scientist in Bern and recreates the atmosphere in which the genius lived, worked and worked.
