Description of the attraction

The Literary Museum of the city of Zhytomyr is located in an old two-storey building at 45 Kievskaya Street. The main focus of the Zhytomyr Literary Museum is scientific acquisition aimed at preserving movable monuments of literary and artistic life.

The Regional Literary Museum of the city of Zhitomir was founded in December 1990 thanks to the initiative of the public. The museum got its present location in 2001. This elegant Art Nouveau building was erected at the beginning of the 20th century. the popular opera singer K. Brun.

The exposition of the literary museum is represented by three exhibitions. On the ground floor of the house there is an exhibition of works by the Zhytomyr theater artist I. Shevchenko, who is an honored art worker of Ukraine. Twenty-five sketches for exhibitions provide a vivid picture of the artist's artistic heritage.

On the second floor there is an exhibition dedicated to the life, literary and artistic activities of the famous poet-translator B. Ten (N. Khomichevsky). This exhibition acquaints visitors with the difficult life of B. Ten, which is illuminated by a number of numerous documents, photos and memorial items.

The third exhibition, which is also located on the second floor of the house, is dedicated to the stay of the famous Ukrainian composer M. Skorulsky in Zhitomir. The exhibition features personal belongings and furniture from the composer's former home, as well as documents and photographs.

The literary museum also includes a separately located department - the literary and memorial museum of Honore de Balzac, located in the village. Verkhovna of Ruzhinsky district.

To date, the museum has collected more than 5 thousand exhibits of museum value. Among them, the library and archival materials of the poet-translator B. Ten, autographs of Ukrainian writers of the 19th-20th centuries, sketches for exhibitions of the Zhytomyr theater, memorial items of Ukrainian writers and artists are of particular importance.
