Description of the attraction

The Church of St. Stephen is located in the Lutsk district of the Volyn region, in the village of Usychi. The wooden church of St. Stephen, erected at the end of the 18th century, is the main spiritual attraction of this region. According to other sources, the church is called the Apostle and Evangelist Luke.

The wooden, three-frame and one-domed church stands on a stone foundation. Equally high and rectangular log buildings are elongated along the axis of the structure. The nave of the temple is covered with a closed log vault on a low light octagon, from above it is sewn with a plafond. The interior space of the Church of St. Stephen is united in the interior by rather high arched openings, which are harmoniously combined with the medallions of the paintings. The choir of the temple forms the second tier of the western frame and is illuminated with high cut windows. The church is vertically sheathed with planks with strips, which are part of the decoration of the temple.

The Church of St. Stephen in Usychi is a monument of Volyn folk architecture. The main shrine of this temple was an oval-shaped icon in the name of the Nativity of Christ, which is currently kept in the Lutsk Museum of the Volyn Icon.
