Description of the attraction
Aarhus is one of the most beautiful cities in Denmark. The history of the city begins almost a thousand years ago. Despite the fact that Aarhus is an industrial city, there are many wonderful recreation areas, one of which is the Botanical Garden.
The botanical garden was founded in 1875 and is located near the Old Town. The park covers an area of 21 hectares. More than 1000 species of various plants are collected in the garden, each plant has a plate with a description in several languages. Every year, the botanical garden attracts about 70,000 visitors to its five greenhouses, both local residents and visitors to the city.
The botanical garden contains many plants from different climatic regions of the earth. Oaks (cork, stone), rosemary, cistus, laurel grow in a subtropical greenhouse. In tropical greenhouses, where humidity is maintained at 80-100%, vines, ginger (various types), pumpkins, cardamom, vanilla, chilean pepper, sago palms and many other plants are grown. In a subtropical summer greenhouse, citrus fruits, pineapples, tree ferns, etc. are grown. In a succulent greenhouse, plants are grown that tolerate an arid climate, demonstrating adaptability to heat and unfavorable conditions.
Aarhus Botanical Garden takes an active part in international programs for the exchange of seeds and plants with other botanical gardens. Also, special excursions are held here, where you can admire the wonderful collection of tropical orchids.
