Description of the attraction

The Ural Mineralogical Museum in Yekaterinburg is a private cultural institution owned by the collector V. A. Pelepenko. The museum's collection includes unique collections of minerals, as well as carvings from stone and bone.

In total, the V. A. Pelepenko, there are more than 10 thousand exhibits (about 900 mineralogical species). The collection consists of polished (about 2 thousand units) and crystalline samples (about 8 thousand units), representing the majority of deposits, both in the country itself and in many other countries of the world.

The main advantages of most of the minerals stored in the Ural Mineralogical Museum are good preservation and aesthetic appearance. Here you can see rare crystalline specimens characterized by an unusual shape and combination of minerals. Polished exhibits are represented by ornamental stones originating from the Urals and other places in Russia. The collection is regularly updated with new samples.

In addition, the museum has a small, but at the same time very interesting collection of products made of bone and stone, made by Ural craftsmen and craftsmen from other countries. Some samples date back to the end of the second half of the 19th century. the beginning of the first half of the XX century. The collection has a high scientific and artistic value, being the best collection of stones not only in Yekaterinburg, but also in Russia. On the basis of V. Pelepenko's mineralogical collection, several exhibitions were organized in various museums of the country.

Since its inception, the Ural Mineralogical Museum has been located in the city center in the building of a former restaurant at the Bolshoi Ural Hotel, which in 1999 was transferred by the leadership of the Sverdlovsk Region. With the change of ownership in 2004, long-term conflicts and litigation began between the museum and the constantly changing tenants of the hotel premises.

At the beginning of 2015, the V. Pelepenko Mineralogical Museum was nevertheless evicted from the hotel building. The Sverdlovsk authorities decided to provide the museum with new premises. It is planned that the collection of V. A. Pelepenko will be accommodated in one of the most beautiful and ancient buildings in Yekaterinburg - Zheleznov's Estate.
