Throughout their history, people have created unique buildings: high towers, skyscrapers hundreds of floors, houses on the ground and under water. One of the most practical structures that humanity could create is the bridge. Today, there are thousands of bridges of various designs, designed at different times, but the longest bridges in the world deserve special attention.
Danyang-Kunshan Viaduct
Danyang-Kunshan Viaduct can rightfully be called the longest bridge in the world, which is included in the Guinness Book of Records. 164.8 kilometers long, the bridge connects Shanghai with Nanjing. The viaduct was commissioned in 2011, after which it became known throughout the world. The project was sponsored by the Chinese government, and more than 10 thousand Chinese and foreign specialists were involved in its implementation.
Zhanghua-Kaohsiung Viaduct
This bridge is the second longest bridge in the world. The structure is part of the Taiwan High Speed Railroad and is distinguished not only by its length, but also by its earthquake-resistant design. During the construction of the bridge, the goal of the engineers was to make the viaduct as strong and safe as possible. The project was implemented in 2007, and its reliability was appreciated by millions of high-speed train passengers.
Tianjin viaduct
It took 4 years to build the viaduct, resulting in a structure with a length of 113,500 meters. The overpass is part of the Chinese high-speed highway from Beijing to Shanghai. The bridge connects the urban districts of Qnixian and Langfang in Cangzhou province. For the construction of the viaduct, more than 30 box-shaped beams were needed, which were connected with special metal structures.
Changdei Viaduct
The total length of the viaduct was 105.79 kilometers. The bridge is one of the sections of the railway connecting Beijing and Shanghai. The viaduct is distinguished by an unusual and robust structure that can protect against earthquakes. The bridge project was developed in one year with the involvement of American specialists. The silver metal frame supported by the thin metal supports creates a feeling of weightlessness.
Bang Na Highway
The bridge is considered the record holder among automobile viaducts. Bang Na is 54,000 meters long, connecting the districts of Bangkok. The viaduct has a complex structure, which is located above the highway and part of the Bang Pakong River. The project is estimated at $ 1.2 billion and was created in order to solve the problem of traffic jams in the Thai capital. The construction of the bridge took 5 years (1995-200), and for the implementation of the project, the local authorities purchased 1.6 million cubic meters of concrete.
Qingdao bridge
Almost 27 kilometers long, the viaduct is the pearl of Shandong province and connects the northern, eastern and western parts of Qingdao city. The construction of the bridge began in 2006 and was completed in 2011. The construction of the bridge was initiated by the local government, which developed a special plan to improve Qingdao's transport infrastructure. The viaduct is part of the transport complex over the Jiaozhou Bay.
The viaduct is a unique structure created by the efforts of international architects. One of the features of the bridge is that its solid structure can withstand collisions with sea and river vessels.
Dam bridge over Lake Pontchartrain
The structure connects the north and south coast of Louisiana. The bridge consists of two highways running parallel to each other. The first bridge was built back in 1956. 12 years later, another one-way bridge appeared next to the viaduct. Due to the underdeveloped design, the bridge structure was fragile and barges often crashed into it. In 1990, the project was finalized and the barges were reinforced with additional materials.
Hong kong bridge
In 2009, construction began on this amazing facility connecting the Chinese cities of Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macau. The project was implemented in 2017. For the construction of the underwater part of the bridge, special supports were developed to firmly hold the structure in the waters of the Pearl River Delta. The bridge is an important highway in the southern provinces of China, as it connects major economic and tourist centers of the country.
Jaber's bridge
The viaduct is one of the most modern and was commissioned in 2019. The bridge is located in Kuwait and includes six main lanes. And also one additional one.
The building is rightfully recognized as one of the longest bridges (49 kilometers) passing through the water area of the Gulf of Kuwait. The throughput of the highway is more than 30,000 cars per day, which speaks of its strength and popularity among motorists.
Other unusual and long viaducts in the world include:
- Beijing Viaduct;
- Swamp Bridge in Manchak;
- Hangzhou Bay Bridge;
- Runyang Bridge;
- Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.
