Seville is located away from the coast, but is ideal for sightseeing tourism. The city, which, as the locals sacredly believe, was founded by Hercules himself, seems to have been created for leisurely walks. You can stay in it for a couple of days, and then move on, for example, to Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia. It will take at least a week to explore Barcelona, so plan your vacation correctly so that it will be pleasant to remember about it for many years. By plane to Barcelona
Seville is 812 km away from Barcelona. Of course, it is much easier to cover this distance by plane. By the way, this way of travel is preferred even by locals who purchase plane tickets several months before the trip, thereby significantly saving on their cost. The average price for a flight from Seville to Barcelona in September 2017 was 33 euros.
There are currently two airlines operating direct scheduled flights from Seville to Barcelona. This is the low cost Spanish carrier Vueling Airlines, which offers 5-6 flights daily from Monday to Friday and reduces this number to 2 on Saturday. The second company working in this direction is the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair. Its planes fly from Seville to Barcelona twice a day. A direct flight takes approximately 1 hour and 35 minutes.
How to get to Seville airport from the city center? The airport is located 10 km northeast of Seville. It has one terminal, which can be easily reached from the city and the nearest settlements. From the central square, Plaza de Armas, you can take a regular bus that goes to the airport, making several stops along the way, for example, at the Santa Justa train station. The ticket costs 4 euros one way and 6 euros both. The journey takes 35 minutes. The bus runs from 4:30 to 00:30. You can also get to the airport by taxi. Prices range from € 22 per day on weekdays to € 31 on weekends and holidays.
There are four ways to get to the city center from Barcelona's El Prat airport:
- By Airbus. It takes tourists from three airport terminals to Plaza de Cataluña. The ticket costs 5, 9 euros. Airbus runs every 5 minutes every day.
- It is cheaper to get to the city by buses TBM # 46 or NitBus # 17. True, the trip will take longer. But in this transport, you can use a T10 ticket, which costs 10 euros and is designed for 10 trips.
- On the suburban line R2 on the Renfe train, travelers arrive at Paseo de Gracia in half an hour. The trip will cost 2, 15 euros.
- Finally, a taxi to the city usually costs between 25 and 30 euros.
By bus - long and expensive
To get the most out of your experience, you can travel from Seville to Barcelona by bus. The Alsa bus carrier offers two routes to Barcelona, which will take 15 hours 35 minutes and 16 hours 30 minutes respectively. Both routes start at Seville Bus Station. The shorter route covers the suburbs of Seville, the cities of Cordoba, Ubeda, Villacarrillo, Villanueva del Arsobispo, Puente de Genave, Albacete, Almansa, Valencia, Castellón de la Plana, Tarragona. The final destination of the trip is the Barcelona-Nord bus station, that is, the Northern Bus Station in Barcelona.
The second route has more stops. To Cordoba, the bus will drop off and pick up passengers in two cities - Carmona and Ecija. After Cordoba, the bus goes through the settlements of Andujar, Bailen and Linares to Ubeda. Then this route partially coincides with the previous one. Outside the town of Villanueva del Arsobispo, the bus turns to Beas de Segura, in order, after Puente de Genave, to call in the picturesque town of Alcaraz, located at the foot of the mountain range of the same name. Then the bus has to pass only Albacete. The next stop will be Barcelona.
Both routes are good in their own way, both lead through the most beautiful Spanish cities, which are worth seeing at least out of the corner of your eye from the bus window.
The bus fare from Seville to Barcelona is quite high - from 66 to 88 euros, depending on the chosen route and the day of travel.
To Catalonia by train
Seville is also linked to Barcelona and by rail. Renfe trains run between Seville and Barcelona 8 times a day. The trip on the high-speed AVE train will be comfortable and pleasant and will not take more than 5 hours. This direct train has a minimal number of stops and runs almost silently. In addition, the Spanish Railways management guarantees a refund of half of the ticket price if the AVE train is more than 15 minutes late. You can also go with a change in Madrid, which will take a little longer. If a passenger wants to save money, they can buy a ticket for the Talgo train, which departs from Seville at 8:35 am and reaches Barcelona in 11 hours.
The first train leaves Seville for Barcelona at 6:45 am, the last at approximately 3 pm. The average cost of train tickets is 78 euros. Of course, the Spanish Railways periodically organize promotions during which you can buy train tickets at a significant discount. But for this you will have to monitor special sites all the time, which most tourists still do not do.
The main train station in Seville, Santa Justa, is located near the center, on Kansas City Avenue. It can be reached on foot from the city center (a leisurely walk will take about 20-25 minutes), by city or intercity bus and by taxi.
Trains from Seville arrive at Barcelona-Sants train station. It is located in the Sants area. From it to the central areas of the city can be reached by metro (line 3, 5, stop Sants-Estació), city buses and taxis.
