You should gradually discover Italy: you won't be able to see all its beauty in one trip. They go to Italy for various reasons: someone wants to look at the famous architectural monuments, someone is attracted by sales, while others dream of a relaxing beach holiday on the shores of the Adriatic or the Mediterranean. It depends on what you expect from the trip, and the answer to the question of when is it better to have a rest in Italy - in winter or summer, and maybe in autumn or spring?

Walk in the cities

Spring is the best time to explore Rome, Florence, Milan and other Italian cities on foot. At this time of the year, Italy is dry, warm, but not yet hot. And there are not as many tourists as in summer or autumn. In Rome and in cities to the south of it in May, the air temperature can warm up to 35-40 degrees, so it is better to come here in March or April.

Before going on an excursion to a particular city, you need to find out if any holiday is celebrated in it. Usually celebrations are timed to the day of a certain saint - the patron saint of a parish church or city. A trip to the city during such a holiday is a great opportunity to learn more about local traditions and take vivid and beautiful photographs. On the other hand, the whole district will come here, which means that you will not be able to see the sights and sit quietly in a restaurant enjoying the chef's skills.

Budget summer

Rimini is the best choice for a beach holiday in Italy. The advantages of this resort over the others are as follows:

  • the swimming season starts in May and lasts until October. In summer, the water temperature in the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Rimini is about 26 degrees. In May, it is slightly colder: 18-20 degrees Celsius;
  • the resort is inexpensive. Here, mainly three-star hotels are built, similar to each other in their service;
  • wide, long sandy beaches, which will fit everyone - and there will be room;
  • proximity to the dwarf state of San Marino, where you can go on a one-day excursion by regular bus;
  • the presence of numerous historical sites in the city itself;
  • vibrant nightlife. There are more than two hundred nightclubs and discos in Rimini. The local nightlife season starts in the second week of June.

Luxury summer

The island of Sardinia and its most famous resort, Porto Cervo, are for those who do not skimp on their own holidays. This is the place where in August or September you can face a world celebrity right on the street. You can live in Porto Cervo both in a hotel and in a rented villa. Prices for a hotel room in the high season go through the roof, but this does not reduce those who want to relax in Sardinia.

In summer, the proximity of Africa is especially felt in Porto Cervo, but the heat is well tolerated here because of the light wind blowing from the Mediterranean Sea. The island of Sardinia is great for holidays in autumn and spring when the air temperature drops. At the beginning of spring, the island turns into a blooming garden. From December to February, the daytime temperature rarely drops below 15 degrees Celsius, so there are many tourists looking for summer in winter.

Sales

For many of our compatriots, Italy is a country where you can buy quality items of well-known world brands for relatively little money. Modern women of fashion are trying to plan a trip to Italy for the season of discounts. There are large sales periods in Italy twice a year. Winter sales start right after the New Year and continue until around the end of February. In summer, prices for clothing, footwear and accessories fall at the beginning of July. By the end of summer, things can be bought at a 70% discount.

Fashion hunters understand that it is better to have a rest in Italy when the sales period is just beginning. Then you can buy the desired wardrobe item of the desired color and size, without spending much effort looking for it. And let the price be reduced by only 30%.

All year round, rather low prices for the products of famous fashion houses are kept in specialized outlet villages. Items from past collections are presented here. The largest European outlet is located near Milan.

Culinary journey

Gastronomic tourism is becoming more and more fashionable. It is better to plan a culinary trip to Italy in autumn, when in numerous local villages, farmers harvest and organize festivals where young wine flows like a river. In the second decade of October, in the Piedmont village of Alba, a holiday is held, timed to the collection of the white truffle. Especially valuable specimens of this mushroom go from auctions for hundreds of euros. In Alba, during this period, you can taste dishes with white truffles at a very affordable price: 10-15 euros. They are served in any cafe in the town.

Another worthy city on the gastronomic map of Italy is Parma. The famous Parmesan cheese is produced here. There is even a museum in the vicinity of the city dedicated to this cheese. It is open at a cheese dairy, where you can not only buy a certain amount of Parmesan in reserve, but also see how it is produced.

In autumn, it is better to go to Turin, where at the end of September they declare a boycott of street food and in every possible way glorify the culinary art of chefs from different regions of Italy as part of the Salone del Gusto festival.

Winter fun

Northern Italy with its abundance of ski resorts is loved by many tourists. The season here starts in December and ends in early April. There are a lot of cities in Italy located along well-maintained tracks and receiving winter sports enthusiasts all winter.

The most popular among foreign travelers and among Italians themselves is the ski area of the Dolomites. It unites 15 valleys and many ski slopes. Tourists stop in small alpine villages, from where it is a stone's throw to the start of trails of various difficulty levels. These villages consist of hotels with three and four stars. Moreover, each hotel has a swimming pool, spa and restaurant, which offers a half-board system. Five-star hotels are not in demand, so there are very few of them here.

Those who want to relax in the mountains of Italy should pay attention to the young resort center Val di Fassa, the resort for beginners and advanced skiers Val di Fiemme, the town of Marmolada by the glacier of the same name, on which you can also ski.

Bright carnival

In February, tour operators sending tourists to Italy rub their hands together, as there is a queue of those wishing to go to the famous Venetian carnival, which was first held in the 11th century. Each year, the fancy-dress festival takes place at different dates in February. It is arranged on the eve of Lent. For several days, Venice blooms with bright colors, turning into a carefree, fun city. Costumes for the holiday are sewn in the best workshops and are very expensive. Many participants in the carnival prepare to pass through the streets of Venice for a whole year. And all for the sake of a few minutes of fame that tourists with cameras provide. Visitors try to keep up with the participants, arm themselves with immediately purchased souvenir masks. You have never seen such a jubilant, colorful Venice!
