The most popular museums in the world seek to visit thousands of tourists from different parts of our planet in order to better get acquainted with the history, culture and traditions of this or that country. To admire the masterpieces of sculpture and painting, tourists and simply curious people often have to stand in long queues.
Louvre, Paris
The museum, located on rue Rivoli, is a repository of 300,000 exhibits (only 35,000 items are exhibited in the halls) from the following collections:
- Graphic arts (130,000 exhibits, including 14,000 copper engravings);
- Ancient Greece (attention should be paid to Greek ceramics, jewelry, bronze and clay products);
- Ancient East (objects of art of Iran, Mesopotamia and the East of the Mediterranean are exhibited);
- Fine arts (the collection of the museum is 6000 paintings);
- The art of Islam (works of Islamic civilization from its inception to the 19th century);
- Sculptures (in addition to antique ones, medieval sculptures and statues dating from the Renaissance to the 18th century are exhibited);
- Ancient Egypt (the collection is divided into three parts - Roman Egypt, chronological and thematic expositions);
- Objects of art (tapestries, furniture, figurines, religious and secular jewelry, covering the period from the Middle Ages to the 19th century).

Hermitage, St. Petersburg
The Hermitage Museum Fund (address: Dvortsovaya Embankment, 34) has about 3 million exhibits. People rush to this museum to admire “Saint Sebastian” (Titian), “Return of the Prodigal Son” (Rembrandt), “Holy Family” (Raphael), “Madonna and Child” (Leonardo da Vinci), Hellenistic and Etruscan vases, French ceramics 16-20 centuries, Western European weapons of the 15-17 centuries, works of art from Germany of the 18-19 centuries and other exhibits.
British Museum, London
In addition to exhibits in the form of 800 papyri, sculptures of Pharaoh Ramses II, statues of gods, luxury items from the times of emperors, ancient Chinese ritual vessels, bas-reliefs from Nineveh and Nimrud, monuments of hieroglyphic writing of the 2nd century BC, coins and medals from the first to modern samples, the museum has a library with 6 reading rooms, which contains manuscripts (200,000 items), geographical maps (500,000), printed publications (7 million volumes), scientific and technical journals (20,000).
The British Museum regularly pampers visitors with themed tours. For example, every Sunday there are meetings of the children's club “Young Friends of the British Museum”, 4 times a year “Nights at the Museum” on different topics (Japan, Egypt).
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York
The Met's permanent exhibition consists of 19 separate sections, but of particular interest is the American Decorative Arts Section (which contains 12,000 pieces of art from the 17th and 20th centuries). Do not ignore the section "American Paintings and Sculptures" (2600 drawings and 600 sculptures), "Art of the Middle East" (7000 items), "Weapons and Armor" (items date back to the 5-19th centuries), "European Painting" (on display 2200 canvases).
Prado Museum, Madrid
The museum collection is famous for some of the most complete collections of paintings by Goya ("The Family of Philip IV", "Nude Mach"), Bosch ("Hay Carry"), Rubens ("Three Graces", "Adam and Eve"), Velazquez ("Isabella Bourbon on horseback”,“Triumph of Bacchus or the Drunkard”), El Greco (“Trinity”,“Baptism of Christ”).
