All Balkan countries are especially loved by Russian tourists. The reasons for this are the hospitality and cordiality of local residents, and the luxurious cuisine, in which every dish is a real masterpiece, and similar language and customs and, of course, magnificent nature. Among its most amazing and picturesque phenomena are river waterfalls. In Serbia, the eastern part of the country is especially rich in them.
Natural monument Bigar
In the summer of 2015, the Bigar waterfall in Serbia was declared a natural monument by the state. It is forbidden to cut down trees, carry out construction work or extract minerals around it. A natural miracle that cascades its 35-meter stream on the western slope of the Stara Planina mountain range is formed by the river of the same name.
On the banks of the Bigar River, not far from the waterfall, there is a monument of medieval architecture - the monastery of St. Onuphrius, known since the 15th century. Pilgrims combine a visit to the monastery with a walk to the waterfall. The sights of Serbia are located near the town of Pirot in the southeast of the country.
On the road to the Serbian caves
130 km from Belgrade in the north-west of the country, you can see another most beautiful waterfall in Serbia. Near the town of Kuchevo there are the Pechina and Cheremoshnya caves, and 4 km from them, the Sige cascade waterfall rustles on the surface of the earth. Its height is about 30 meters, and the best time to visit is mid-spring, when the stream that forms the falling jets becomes especially full-flowing.
Scenic route
- The southern spurs of the Carpathians form the massif of the Kuchaisk Mountains in Serbia, among which several more picturesque forest waterfalls are lost. The spray lives up to its name! This waterfall in Serbia falls from a height of only 10 meters, but it is a very picturesque sight. Halfway through, the jets of water hit the ledge and form a real spray of fireworks.

In the east of the country, near Kladov, jets of forest springs merge into a single stream to fall into a forest lake with a thin veil of myriads of splashes. The wonderful waterfall is called Blederia.
- The Big Grasshopper is formed by the Kamishna River, making a 25-meter jump to Mokra Gora in the Zlatibor mountain range in southwestern Serbia.
In the Kapaonik park
Among other natural wonders of the Kapaonik National Park in Serbia, the Jelovarnik waterfall is especially popular with tourists. Its stream falls down from a height of 71 meters, and Elovarnik is the highest among its kind in the country. It consists of three cascades and is located in a hard-to-reach wooded area. But neither the impassable roads nor the height of 1,500 meters above sea level stop fans of landscape photography and simply lovers of natural masterpieces.
The easiest way to get to the national park is by taxi or rented car. The distance from the highest waterfall in Serbia to the nearest settlement, Brus, is 25 km.
