The economic and cultural center of the Lower Volga region, Astrakhan is located in the Volga delta on eleven islands. In summer, cruises on river liners and boat trips along the Astrakhan embankments are popular here: magnificent views of the city open from the water.
Along the river
There are two embankments in Astrakhan and they are connected with each other:
- Krasnaya Embankment is a city street that runs along both sides of the Volga arm of the Kutum River from its source. Its length is about two kilometers.
- The 1st May embankment merges with Krasnaya and stretches along the Volga coast.
Both embankments are loved by the Astrakhan people as a place for walks and family recreation. The pedestrian zones are equipped with benches and places for jogging and sports, lawns and playgrounds for children.

The Wedding Palace is located in the old building of the former exchange department, built at the very beginning of the twentieth century. The architect Varganek-Valdovsky conceived a project that fits perfectly into the surrounding landscapes: the Art Nouveau mansion is stylized as a ship deck. In the first years of Soviet power, the building was occupied by the political department of the Volga-Caspian Flotilla, and then by the committee of the city's Communist Party, until in 1964 a decision was made to relocate the registry office here.
Among other architectural landmarks of the Astrakhan embankment are the former mansions of industrialists Sarkisov and Shelekhov, which are classified as federal monuments.

In summer, a floating fountain is erected on the water opposite the Spit of the Volga and Kutum, and the largest fountain in Astrakhan is called "Petrovsky". A light and music performance with his participation can be seen every evening near the monument to Peter the Great.
In the area of children's attractions for toddlers, there is a Rybka fountain, parts of which rotate when touched.
