The history of this Russian city began with the founding of an arms factory. Over time, the small settlement in which the builders and workers of the enterprise lived, grew to the capital of Udmurtia, received the unofficial title of the arms capital of Russia (together with Tula) and the title of "City of Labor Glory". The coat of arms of Izhevsk reflects the unity of man and nature, the elements depicted on it are filled with deep symbolic meaning.
Description of the city coat of arms
According to local regulations, the coat of arms of Izhevsk is a legal identification mark. It was approved by the City Duma quite recently, in 1997, and was developed by a team of authors consisting of Nikolai Bykov and Sergey Bekhterev.
When working on the heraldic symbol of Izhevsk, the authors relied on the rules of world heraldry, but took into account local realities. In addition, researchers of the Izhevsk coat of arms note the conceptuality of the idea, the deep philosophical meaning of elements and symbols, and a careful selection of the color palette. The latter is especially noticeable in color photos and illustrations.
Only four colors have been chosen for the coat of arms, while they go well with each other. For the shield, which, by the way, has a traditional French shape, silver and blue have been chosen (the shield is vertically divided into two equal fields). The same colors have been chosen for the symbol elements, so there is harmony.
The coat of arms of the capital of Udmurtia contains the following important elements:
- ticks - as a symbol of a large industrial city;
- an arrow located vertically in the center of the shield - position "in the post";
- a bunch of mountain ash, symbolizing nature.
As you can see, there are few elements, but each has a deep philosophical meaning. The authors of the sketch in their report at the session dedicated to the approval of the main symbol of Izhevsk, noted that the work had been going on for seven years.
Philosophical concept
It is based on the idea of trinity, represented through three symbolic elements - an arrow, pincers, a bunch of mountain ash. According to the authors' concept, the arrow symbolizes a person, the upward direction also has the meaning of physical and spiritual growth.
Ticks act as a striking demonstrator of industrial activity, which is not surprising given the important role of Izhevsk in the creation of weapons and ensuring the defense capability of Russia. A bunch of mountain ash, one of the most common and revered trees by people, naturally symbolizes nature, the natural wealth of the region.
