Waterfalls in Europe cannot be called the highest and most powerful, but this part of the world has something to be proud of. These water attractions can be found in any European country, but most of them are concentrated in the Alps and Pyrenees, as well as on the mountain rivers of Scandinavia.

Dettifoss

This 44-meter waterfall (its width is about 100 m) on the Jekulsau-au-Fjedlum river is the most powerful in Europe. Its name in translation means “seething waterfall”, and the average water consumption is 200 cubic meters per second (sometimes this figure reaches 500 cubic meters). It is advisable to plan a visit to Dettifoss in June-September (there is an observation deck near the waterfall), since in another period it will be impossible to get here (everything around will be turned into a viscous mess).

Rhine Falls

Tourists are invited to admire the waterfall (width - 150 m, height - more than 20 m) from the southern and northern banks of the Rhine, where observation platforms are equipped for them. In addition, do not miss the opportunity to take a boat trip (cost - 7 francs) - it will take everyone to the rock in the center of the waterfall (a hiking trail leads to its top).

Gavarnie

It is a waterfall of 12 cascades of different heights and volumes (jets in free fall fall from a 420-meter height), at the foot of which there is the Gav de po river. Tourists will be offered to start their journey to the waterfall from the village of Gavarnie (it is “hidden” by the Pyrenees mountains) - the way to the destination will take about 4 hours.

Cascata delle Marmore

It is a three-stage waterfall (the highest in the world among artificial waterfalls), with a total height of more than 160 m (the highest cascade reaches 83 m). It should be noted that the cascade “turns on” (12: 00-13: 00; 16: 00-17: 00) and “turns off” according to the schedule, so you should be here at the moment the gate opens (a small stream after the sound signal and the rise of the gate turns into a rushing water stream). Upstairs, to the observation deck (overlooking the waterfall and the valley of the Nera River), those who wish will be led by a paved path or tunnel (during the "show" there everyone will get wet to the skin).

Krimml waterfalls

They are presented in the form of a three-stage waterfall (it is fed by glacier waters): the height of the middle cascade reaches 100 m, and the upper and lower ones - 140 m each. There is an observation deck for tourists - from there they will be able to admire the Krimml waterfalls even in the evening thanks to special lighting. On the first level, travelers will find a cafe and a souvenir shop, the second level can be reached by a tourist taxi, and on the third level, everyone will be able to be alone with the picturesque nature.
