Are you a traveler interested in waterfalls in Karelia? You will be amazed to learn that there are more than 100 waterfalls and rapids in the Republic (unfortunately, ordinary tourists do not have access to all of them) - the most famous of them are definitely worth admiring.

Kivach waterfall

Admiring the Kivach waterfall, visitors will see how the water “falls” from the secondary (split into several jets) and 4 steps of the main stream (the height of the total fall is more than 10 m). In addition, tourists will be able to visit the nearby arboretum (they will see more than 40 species of trees and shrubs) and the Nature Museum (here you can learn the history of the waterfall and the protected area, as well as visit photo and exhibitions of children's creativity on the theme of nature).

Note: address: Kondopozhsky district, Kivach nature reserve; website: www.zapkivach.ru; entrance to the reserve - 150 rubles; an organized excursion will cost 700 rubles (it includes travel to the destination by bus) + payment of an entrance ticket to the reserve.

Yukankoski Falls

Yukankoski (it is called the “White Bridges”, which were once built here by the Finns, but today there are ruins from them) is the highest waterfall in the south of Karelia (its height is 17-19 m): the way to it cannot be called easy, but the efforts made will be rewarded with admiration of the majestic landscapes and unspoiled nature. It is worth noting that in summer you can swim under the waterfall (at this time the water warms up well). And if you wish, you can set up a small camp in the vicinity in a beautiful meadow: the main conditions are keeping clean and not harming the unique place.

Ruskeala waterfalls

They are presented in the form of 4 flat waterfalls, 3-4 m high: extreme tourists love this place for the opportunity to overcome the waterfall rapids by kayaking. Among Ruskeala waterfalls, Akhvenkoski stands out - its territory is equipped with parking lots (cars and buses with tourists stop here), a souvenir shop, covered gazebos, a shop where you can buy smoked fish.

It is worth noting that you can admire the Ruskeala waterfalls not only by climbing to the observation deck - you just need to walk the river over the bridge and a little more into the forest along the path to see them from a different angle.

Mäntykoski waterfall

This is another Karelian waterfall (its height is about 9 m), under which you can swim. And not far from it you can find a place equipped with a bonfire, where you can settle down by pitching a tent.

Upper Koirinoya waterfall

Its location is a destroyed dam: a waterfall (height - 5 m) resembles a slide from which water rolls down in a uniform stream. In this regard, it is popular among kayakers - they ride boats here, like on a sled (thanks to the convenient path available, the passage can be done again and again).
