In a small but multifaceted Montenegro, there are so many attractions and simply beautiful places that rest here turns into an incredibly eventful adventure. When planning where to go from Budva for one day, pay attention to the most popular tourist destinations:
- Buses from the bus station in Budva depart regularly 2-3 times per hour for Boka Kotorska and Kotor. The journey takes only half an hour, and the ticket will cost about 5 euros. Travel companies organize excursions here, the price of which will be 20-30 euros.
- A little more than 60 km separate Budva from Herceg Novi. Direct buses go here for about an hour, and then their passengers change to the ferry. The route through Kotor and Risan will take almost three hours. The second option turns into an exciting sightseeing tour along the Bay of Kotor.
- In Cetinje and Lovcen, you will have to cover part of the way by bus, and the remaining 20 km by taxi. The village of Njegushi, the birthplace of the famous prosciutto, is located in this direction.
- The journey to Lake Skadar, taking into account transfers, can take up to three hours, although the distance does not exceed 40 km. It is best to go in this direction by car or taxi.
- Where to go from Budva to plunge into the atmosphere of Balkan hospitality and taste the best local cuisine? Your choice is Podgorica, where regular buses start every 20 minutes, covering 60 km in an hour. The issue price is 5 euros.
It is convenient to travel independently in Montenegro by a rented car - the roads are good, and local drivers are very friendly towards tourists.
On a visit to the birds
Skadar Lake is one of the most popular ecotourism destinations in Montenegro. More than two hundred species of birds nest on its shores, which are protected by the workers of the local ornithological reserve.
Getting here by public transport is quite problematic, and therefore tourists prefer organized excursions that include boat rides, a picnic with a treat from the captain and lunch at a fish restaurant. Tour cost from 40 to 60 euros. (All prices are approximate and given as of August 2015).
Those who nevertheless reached Virpazar town on their own rent a boat, take a walk on the lake, watch birds and taste local cuisine in beach cafes. In summer, a sailing school is open on the shore, a surf equipment rental shop is open, and birdwatching fans can enjoy special excursions on bird-watching platforms.
To Orthodox shrines
When planning where to go from Budva, Orthodox travelers often choose pilgrimage tours. One of the most revered places in Montenegro is the Savina monastery, 2 km from the town of Hertsog Novi. It was founded in the first third of the 11th century and today only a small church remains from the original construction. The main church of the monastery keeps under its shade the image of the Savinsky Mother of God - a particularly revered Montenegrin shrine. In the city of Hertsog Novi itself, the temple of the Archangel Michael was opened for pilgrims.
