In many ways, the history of Dubai is still subject to close scrutiny. Recently, the fact was discovered that about seven thousand years ago there were no sands, and instead of them there was a mangrove swamp. Also, evidence was found of the presence of farmers and pastoralists here in later periods. However, not a single written source reports this. These references appear already in a later period, when the colonial development of the East by European countries was underway.
The testimonies are, among other things, sad: 1841 was marked by a smallpox epidemic, as a result of which the inhabitants moved east of the Deira River; 1894 brought a devastating fire here.
But Dubai had a geographically advantageous position. To establish trade here, the emir lowered taxes, which attracted immigrants here from Sharjah who were engaged in the sale and purchase of various kinds of things. In those years, the pearl industry flourished here, so there was something to trade with the nearby rich country - India. Pearl fishing flourished here until the crisis of the 1920s broke out and artificial pearls were not created.
Weakened the position of the emirate and territorial disputes with Abu Dhabi. In 1947, war broke out here. They had to resort to the help of Britain, which set up a buffer zone on the border. However, the conflict itself was extinguished only in 1979, when the UAE was already formed. This event took place in 1971. Dubai joined the UAE in 1973. This is the history of Dubai briefly, covering the period up to the end of the last century.
Contemporary history of Dubai
The Middle East has always been a boiling pot due to the presence of large oil reserves. Therefore, countries that were geographically far from this region were eager to interfere in its politics and periodically unleash wars here. This happened in the 1990s, when the US military presence was felt here. However, in Dubai itself, it was calm. It even became for the local wealthy something like European Switzerland - here some of them tried to transfer their capital.
Tourists also wanted to get to the calm city, so the local government had to concentrate on the construction of trade and tourist facilities. New wonders of the world were built here to attract guests from abroad - a man-made island, Dynamic Tower, Burj Dubai skyscraper and other interesting buildings.
Today, air traffic has been established here, sea trade and passenger transportation are developed. Naturally, the oil industry, which brings a lot of money to the treasury, has not been forgotten either. However, great projects take a lot of money, so life in the country becomes somewhat more expensive.
