One of the oldest cities in Belarus, Brest, attracts guests primarily with the legendary Brest Fortress and the National Park Belovezhskaya Pushcha. But the city itself deserves attention. And if you meet Christmas in Brest, you will not have to regret it. The clean air of Belovezhskaya Pushcha breathes easily and freely, and the indestructible Brest Fortress will share its magic power with you.

On Christmas evenings, the whole of Brest is decorated with garlands of light. The trees become like dandelions. Some, however, look mysterious, like ghosts, in tattered light outfits.

The Brest Philharmonic invites you to a Christmas masquerade ball. The festive evening will traditionally begin with a polonaise. Then the chamber orchestra will perform waltzes, polkas, quadrille and much more. Guests must wear fancy dress or at least masks.

sights

Most of the guests begin their acquaintance with Brest with a visit to the fortress. It takes almost the whole day to explore this memorial complex and its museums. Fortunately, on the territory of the fortress there is a cafe "Citadel", where you can refresh yourself with delicious dishes of Belarusian cuisine. And continue the excursion.

There are many more interesting things in Brest:

  • Church of St. Nicholas
  • Holy Cross Church
  • St. Simeon's Cathedral
  • Art Museum
  • Museum of Slavic Antiquity
  • Museum of Railway Technology

But only after walking along Sovetskaya Street you will fall in love with this city forever. And not only because of the beauty of its main street and the variety of shops, boutiques, cafes and restaurants on it. There is also something that you will not find anywhere else. These are her kerosene lanterns and the lamplighter with them. The nightly lantern lighting ritual attracts visitors and locals alike. Every evening a lamplighter appears in the form of the century before last, with a small ladder on his shoulder. At sunset, he climbs the stairs to the lantern and lights a kerosene lamp in it. And so in turn - all 17 lanterns, and with the rising of the sun in the same sequence it extinguishes them. And for several years now, the lamplighter has been doing this every day, in any weather, without days off and holidays. Tourists from all over the world take pictures with him, touch the copper buttons on his uniform, compose legends about their fulfillment of desires and believe in it themselves. The order for the introduction of the post of a lamplighter in Brest is engraved on a plate crowned with a figurine of a bat with a lantern in its claws.

It is unforgivable if you get to Brest, not to visit Belovezhskaya Pushcha and not see the famous bison, wild boars, elk, bears and other wild animals. The park also houses the estate of Santa Claus, with huts, a mill and a store of gifts. It's good to come here with children.

You will return from Brest with a pure heart, and the kind smile of the lamplighter and the warm light of his lanterns will warm your soul for a long time.
