The capital of Algeria invites travelers to walk along the Che Guevara boulevard, explore the narrow streets, admiring the unusual architecture while walking through the Old Town, view the constantly changing exposition of the Museum of Modern Art, relax in the Jardin d'Essai park, splash in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea, go shopping on Rue Didouche Mourad (from national goods it is worth acquiring wooden kitchen utensils, embossing, carpets, silver decorations with Berber motifs).

Monument of Glory and Martyrdom

The 92-meter monument was erected in honor of the soldiers who died in the 1954-62 war. It is a 14-meter long three palm leaves made of reinforced concrete (their ribs converge at the top in the form of a tower, which is crowned by a 6-meter dome - it pleases visitors with an observation deck, from where they prefer to admire Algeria and the Mediterranean Sea), at the foot of each of the leaves you can see the sculpture of an Algerian soldier. In addition, there is an underground museum, the Eternal Flame, and the remains of fallen soldiers in the crypt.

Ketshava Mosque

The mosque is an example of a mixture of Byzantine and Moorish architectural styles (the facades are decorated with arches with rich decor, and the roof is supported by white marble columns, some of which have survived from the time of the construction of the mosque). To reach the entrance door, which is decorated with a portico with 4 columns (black marble was used in their construction), you need to overcome 23 steps.

The great mosque

Being the architectural pearl of Algeria, the Jamea el-Kebir mosque occupies a considerable territory, which is equipped with a prayer hall; library and school (classrooms can accommodate 300-500 people); the garden and the Museum of Islamic Art; a viewing platform (from here you can see beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea).

Cathedral of Our Lady

The cathedral was built on a rock, at a height of 124 m above the sea, and is an example of the neo-Byzantine style with elements of Roman architecture. The building is decorated with blue and white mosaics and a large dome with a cross; in the interior you can see columns, stained glass windows, arches, paintings, and in the courtyard there are memorial plaques and a statue of the Queen of Africa. It is worth noting that daily services are held in French (with the exception of Friday, when services are held in English).
