The rivers of Hungary are a small water network. At the same time, some areas of the republic are completely devoid of surface drains. The country's river network fully belongs to the Danube basin. Also, the rivers of the Hungarian Republic are characterized by the inconstancy of the formation of freeze-up.
Tisza river
The channel of the Tisza is located in the central part of Europe, the river makes its way through the territory of several countries, bypassing in transit - Ukraine, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Serbia. The Tisza is the longest left-sided tributary of the Danube. The total length of the Tisza riverbed is nine hundred and seventy-seven kilometers. Of these, five hundred and seventy-nine kilometers flow through the lands of the Hungarian Republic.
The beginning of the river is located in the Ukrainian territories. This is the Transcarpathian region (the city of Rakhovo). It is here that the waters of two rivers - the Black and White Tisza (height relative to sea level - 445 meters) join. The source of the Black Tisza is the Svidovets ridge (northeastern slope at an altitude of 1400 meters). Belaya Tisa begins on the slopes of the Chernogora mountain range (southwestern part, 1650 meters above sea level).
Danube river
The Danube ranks second in the list of the longest European rivers, second only to the Volga. The total length of the Danube channel is almost three thousand kilometers (only four dozen kilometers separate it from this figure).
The river bed makes its way through the territory of the ten largest countries. Four hundred and seventeen kilometers of river flow pass through the lands of Hungary.
The source of the river is located in Germany (formed by the confluence of two rivers - Briham and Breg at an altitude of 678 meters above sea level), and it ends in the waters of the Black Sea. At the same time, the Danube forms a vast delta that runs along the border of two states: Romania and Ukraine.
River gornard
The Gornard channel belongs to two countries at once - the Slovak and Hungarian republics. The Gornard is one of the tributaries of the Chaillot River. The total length of the river is 286 kilometers. Approximately 193 kilometers flow through the lands of Slovakia, and only 118 kilometers of the channel falls to the share of Hungary.
The river source is located in the Low Tatras (the foot of the Kraleva Golja mountain). On some part of the route, the river passes the historical regions of Slovenia. Through the territory of the Hungarian Republic, the river paves the way through the lands of the Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen county.
Zala river
The channel of the Hall passes through the lands in the southwestern part of the country. The total length of the river flow is one hundred and thirty-eight kilometers.
The source of the river is hidden in the hills located near the border, in the territory occupied by the Ergesh National Park. Almost throughout the entire length of the river, the river is directed strictly to the east, in the middle course it runs in transit through the territory of Zalaegerszeg. The Zala flows into Lake Balaton (its southwestern end) near the town of Keszthely.
