The Cape Verde or Cape Verde archipelago is located in the Atlantic Ocean west of the African continent. Sports fishing, excellent windsurfing, pristine beaches and a unique culture attract a Russian traveler here, especially since you can fly to Cape Verde airports with just one connection in Lisbon, Madrid or Paris. There are no direct flights either from Moscow or from St. Petersburg to the Cape Verde Islands yet, and you will have to spend at least 9 hours in the sky.
Cape Verde International Airports
On the Cape Verde Islands, out of a fairly large number of operating airports, only two have international status, and the capital is not the main one:
- The main air harbor is located on the Sal island, 2 km from Eshpargush. The city where the airport is located is called the capital of the island, but tourists who land at the Amilcar Cabral airport head south for the beaches of Santa Maria.
- Cape Verde's capital airport is named after Nelson Mandela and is located on the island of Santiago.
Saint Mary and her resorts
Flights to Cape Verde Airport on Sal Island are operated by Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese airlines and carriers from Morocco, France and Italy. During the season, dozens of charters fly here, delivering Brussels, Budapest, British and Swedes to the beaches of Santa Maria.
Cape Verde Airport on Sal Island has a single terminal where you can comfortably wait for your flight. For passengers there are duty-free shops, several cafes, a bank branch and a currency exchange office.
Unfortunately, the Amilcar Cabral airport cannot boast of having a taxi. The transfer is usually carried out by the hotel staff or the tourists themselves in a rented car. The rental car offices are located in the arrivals area, and the highway towards Santa Maria beaches starts right outside the airport gates. The second way to get to the desired place is by aluguer fixed-route taxis, which connect the main settlements, resorts and hotels.
Metropolitan direction
The new airport in the capital of Cape Verde was opened in 2005 and was named after Nelson Mandela. The distance between Praia and the airfield is only 3 km in a straight line.
The number of aircraft landing in this air harbor is not very large, but from Praia you can fly to Lisbon on the wings of TAP Portugal, to Casablanca by Royal Air Maroc, to Dakar by Senegal and to Luanda by Angolan airlines. The local airline TACV operates regular flights from the capital to Bissau, Dakar, Fortaleza, the Canary Islands, the Portuguese capital and Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The easiest way to get to the city is by minibuses, which run frequently and are quite affordable. For a half-hour taxi ride on the islands, you will have to pay up to 10 euros, but the price can be significantly less if you rent a car for the whole day.
