Description of the attraction

Zoo "Punta Verde" in the resort town of Lignano on the Adriatic coast of Italy is a private zoo, spread over an area of 100 thousand square meters. on the banks of the Tagliamento river. It was opened in 1979, and over the past 30-plus years, the number of its inhabitants has increased significantly. Today the zoo contains over a thousand animals belonging to 150 different species - mammals, birds and reptiles.

The tasks of the zoo include the preservation of certain species of animals, participation in various nature conservation programs and projects, conducting research work, as well as organizing educational programs. To implement the last point, a special laboratory and a video library were created, as well as various ecological educational routes were developed, on which experienced guides introduce visitors to the inhabitants of the zoo and provide a lot of informative information.

Despite the fact that the animals in the zoo are kept in cages, the best care is provided for them - special attention is paid to a balanced diet, taking into account all the characteristics of the species. The zoo employees also monitor the purity of the blood of their wards - genetic changes are minimized. Animals are regularly examined by veterinarians who monitor their health using tests and other methods. Every year, work is carried out to reconstruct and improve corrals and enclosures - there are over 70 of them in the park, and each is made of natural materials, such as stone and wood.

Today, thanks to these measures, a variety of animal species, including those endangered in their natural environment, feel at ease in the zoo. Among the local inhabitants, you can see long-necked giraffes, African lions, sluggish camels, severe bears, Tibetan goats, magpie sandpipers and other animals.

In addition, the Punta Verde Zoo has a botanical section in which plants typical of the Apennine Peninsula coexist with exotic flora. The latter survive here perfectly thanks to ponds with thermal water, the temperature of which is constantly kept at the level of 30 ° C - this creates a certain microclimate.
