The streets of Lviv are distinguished by a special romantic atmosphere and unusual architecture. The houses located there were built in different eras and have survived to this day. They have facades of different colors and heights. Almost all buildings are considered architectural monuments of certain years and eras.

If you walk along the streets of Lviv, you can understand that the city has preserved its ancient history, which is described in textbooks. Lviv, together with Kiev and St. Petersburg, forms the three most beautiful cities of the former USSR. Almost all old buildings have been preserved in it, and faceless houses are practically absent in the central part. The main avenues are paved with cobblestones, and trams move quietly thanks to special rails.

Famous streets of Lviv

The most beautiful and prestigious street is Svobody Avenue. The business and cultural life of the townspeople is concentrated here. The name of the avenue has changed several times. At different times it was referred to as the Lower Shafts, Hetman Shafts, Legions Street, Svoboda Avenue, etc. The main attractive object here is the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater, which has existed since 1900.

Active development of the avenue began at the end of the 19th century - hotels, bank buildings, residential buildings, shops were built. The most significant events in Lviv take place on Svobody Avenue. One of the main city streets is Shevchenko Avenue. The buildings located here evoke associations with medieval castles. This picturesque street existed in 1569. Earlier the avenue was called Akademicheskaya Street. In 1955, it began to be designated Shevchenko Avenue. The northern border of the old town is the very long Gorodotskaya Street. It stretches for 7, 5 km and is considered the first road in Lviv, which was paved with paving stones.

Areas of high-rise buildings

In addition to the historical center, streets with multi-storey buildings deserve attention. Sleeping areas of the city: Kozelniki; Sykhov; Sknilov; Bodnarkovka and others. Earlier in the place of these areas there were villages, gradually growing to the city limits. It is recommended to start the inspection from Lychakivska Street, following which you will get to the Pokrovskaya Church. In Sykhiv there is a beautiful Church of the Nativity of the Virgin, adjacent to the park named after John Paul II. This church is the best example of Christian architecture in Lviv.

The downside of the city is the huge number of cars on the streets. There is no metro in Lviv, and narrow streets impede traffic. The air in the city is very polluted, and cars constantly form traffic jams.
