The coat of arms of Slovenia has ancient historical traditions and is a shield, on the contours of which there is a narrow red border. In the center of the shield is a stylized image of the sea. The shield also has three hexagonal stars.

The history of the emergence of the coat of arms

The coat of arms traces its history from previous heraldic figures. Briefly, the development of the coat of arms of Slovenia can be divided into several periods.

  • The coat of arms of Carinthia has existed since the XII century. The first image of such a coat of arms is the image of a black panther. Then it was placed on the seal of the duke.
  • Coat of arms of the Illyrian kingdom. It was the administrative unit of the Austrian Empire. This coat of arms existed from 1816 to 1849. One of the main elements of this coat of arms was the Austrian crown.
  • The coat of arms of Krajny dates back to the 19th century. Once it was one of the provinces of Austria-Hungary.
  • The coat of arms of the Austrian Primorye existed until 1918 - the year of the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This coat of arms was divided into four parts. The origin of this coat of arms is associated with this particular empire.
  • The coat of arms of the Socialist Republic of Slovenia existed until 1990. Its construction was strictly regulated by the laws of creating coats of arms among all socialist countries. Elements traditional for such countries were added to this coat of arms - a red pentagonal star, wheat ears.

Symbols of individual symbols of the coat of arms

The mountain depicted on the coat of arms is Triglav. At this time, this mountain, together with the surrounding area, is a park of national importance. The silhouette of this mountain is of great symbolic significance for Slovenia.

Stylized waves depict the Adriatic Sea - the main sea in the country. In addition, waves are also a symbolic image of the country's water resources, because Slovenia is famous for its deep rivers.

Six-pointed stars are of ancient origin. Heraldists trace their origins back to the coat of arms of von Zilli. In addition, the three stars symbolize three important dates in the history of Slovenia: the liberation of the country from the rule of Austria-Hungary in 1918, the liberation from the Italian and German occupation in 1945, and the proclamation of Slovenia's independence in 1991.

The colors of the coat of arms - white, blue and red repeat the colors of the national flag. In addition, we see the coat of arms of the country on the flag of the country. The colors of the coat of arms and the flag coincide with the ideas of Pan-Slavism.
