Food in Romania is characterized by the fact that the national cuisine is simple, hearty, varied and tasty.

Romanian cuisine was influenced by the culinary traditions of the Slavic and Ugric peoples, but, nevertheless, it is very original (it is quite spicy, because local dishes are generously flavored with spices and seasonings). The diet of Romanians consists of vegetables, corn, legumes, meat, fish, cereals, soups.

For the second, Romanians like to cook pork dishes: it is stewed, fried, baked in the oven, poured with hot sauces, puddings and light snacks are made from it. No less popular dish on the Romanian table is hominy. It is customary to add sour cream to this porridge made from corn flour and sprinkle with cheese on top.

In Romania, Romanian cabbage rolls (sarmale) should be tried; Romanian soups based on beef broth, chicken or offal (chorbe); hominy fried in sour cream with cheese and bacon (bulz); steak (friptura); spicy sausages (mici); pies with cheese filling (langosi); meat stew with vegetables ("givech"); grilled Black Sea sturgeon (nisetru la gratar).

Those with a sweet tooth should pamper themselves with baked fruits, baklava, Turkish delight, pies with fruit fillings, muffins, cakes and rolls.

If you want to have breakfast like a true Romanian, you will be served bagels with butter, scrambled eggs and coffee. And in cafes or restaurants, as a snack, you should enjoy pies with cheese or meat, hot grilled sausages and meatballs.

  • cafes and restaurants of international cuisine, where you can taste dishes of French, Italian, Chinese and other cuisines (as a rule, they are located in large cities);

Popular drinks of Romanians are coffee, beer, wine, tuica (60-degree liqueur made from plum fruit).

Beer is a widespread drink in the country: foamy drinks of international brands (Heineken, Pilsner, Peroni, Urquell) are brewed here under license. It is not difficult to determine whether the drink is local or imported from abroad: the cost of imported beer is much higher.
