The Santiago Metro is the most important public transport in the capital of Chile. The total length of its lines is 110 kilometers. 108 stations are open for entry, exit and transfer of passengers, and the Chilean subway is considered the third largest in all of Latin America. More than 2.3 million residents and guests of the Chilean capital use its services every day. The Santiago Metro is operated by a state-owned company.
The official date for the opening of the subway is September 1975. The first line that opened then connected San Pablo with La Moneda, and its length was 8.2 km. The first red line was finally completed in 2010, and today it crosses Santiago from east to west.
The modern Chilean metro has five full-fledged lines, the longest of which is the green line number 5 - more than 30 km. The shortest is the blue line 4A - 7.7 km. The city authorities are planning to build the L3 branch with a length of 22 km with 18 stations and the L6 line - 15 km long with 10 stations. The first is scheduled to be completed by 2018, and the second by 2016.
The Santiago Metro is symbolized by three red rhombuses enclosed in a steel circle. In total, the subway is represented by seven types of cars, some of which are rubber tread. All carriages are modern and clean, air conditioned, and trains are produced in Spain, France and Mexico. Signs in the Chilean subway - in Spanish and English. It is not very clear why such a strange schedule is connected, but the Santiago metro is exactly the case when a couple of minutes decides everything!
