Description of the attraction
Wellington Town Hall is one of the most beautiful historic buildings in the capital of New Zealand. The first stone in the foundation of the town hall was solemnly laid on June 18, 1901 by King George V, but the construction began only a year later. On December 7, 1904, Wellington's Town Hall was officially inaugurated by Mayor Aitken. The city celebrated this event for 4 days.
There was originally a 150-foot tower on the front of the building, equipped with a clock. However, in order to secure the city in the event of an earthquake, it was decided to dismantle the tower. At the moment, the town hall is a beautiful building in the Roman style and is the symbol of the capital of New Zealand.
Wellington Town Hall is owned by the City Council. The commercial organization he created manages six of the city's most important buildings: in addition to the City Hall, it runs the Michael Fowler Center, St James's Theater, the Opera House, the TSB Bank Arena, and the Shed 6, which was reconstructed and reopened in 2013., with its own rustic style, located right on the water.
The Town Hall Hall is not only a meeting place for the Mayor and City Council. All kinds of conferences, exhibitions, gala dinners, charity events, concerts, awards, prizes are held here. The hall for 1609 people is located on two levels, the acoustic qualities of the hall are widely known. On the lower tier, the seats for spectators are removable, which allows, if necessary, to provide the hall with a large flat space. In the building of the Town Hall there are five luxurious suites, which can be rented by those who wish.
