Description of the attraction

Festival Theater is an Austrian theater of festivals located in Lower Austria in the city of Sankt Pölten. Located next to the National Museum, National Library, National Archives and the Cultural Center of St. Pölten.

The festival theater was opened on March 1, 1997. The architect Klaus Kad worked on the creation of the theater. The building consists of four halls, suitable for a wide variety of cultural events due to their different sizes and functionality. The large hall is designed for 1063 seats, has an orchestra pit, which makes it possible to show ballet performances. A special acoustic enclosure was built for orchestral concerts. The same hall can easily turn into a dance hall if necessary.

The Iron Curtain was designed by the artist Eva Schlegel. It separates the viewer from the stage. The dimensions of the curtain are impressive: 20 meters wide and 10.5 meters high. This structure weighs more than 14 tons.

There are two rehearsal rooms for smaller performances. One is decorated with black wood paneling, and the glazed façade is darkened with wood slats. All seating in the hall is mobile and can be adapted to suit any performance. The second rehearsal room is located directly above the first. Conceived as a lecture hall, as well as a ballet room. The ceiling, partly made of glass, offers stunning views of the sky.

Since September 2009, the German dancer, choreographer and director Joaquim Schloemer has been the artistic director of the theater.

The festival theater hosts about 70 different performances per season for 70,000 visitors a year.
