Description of the attraction

Braga is considered the most beautiful city in Portugal and is conditionally divided into Old Town and New Town. The new city is more of a business district. All historical monuments and religious sites are concentrated in the Old Town.

The Church of Santa Eulalia is located in the Tenoins area of the Braga district. It is also considered the parish church of the area. The Church of Santa Eulalia is small in size, built in the 13th century and is a typical example of the architecture of northern Portugal during the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. In the construction of churches in the northern part of Portugal at that time (XIII-XIV century), simple architectural forms prevailed. The churches were small in size, consisted of one nave and a chapel. The interior decoration of the temples was notable for its simplicity and was not pretentious.

Inside the church there is a rectangular nave and a chapel. The small chapel also has the shape of a rectangle. Unfortunately, little has remained of the church today.

The church is dedicated to Saint Eulalia, who is the patroness of many parts of Portugal, and there are even several areas in the country named after this saint. Saint Eulalia was born in the 6th century and at a young age she was martyred for her faith in Christ, but she did not renounce the Christian faith.

Since 1967, the Portuguese Institute for Architectural Heritage has classified the Church of Santa Eulalia as the country's cultural heritage. The Church of Santa Eulalia is located near the popular place of pilgrimage for Catholics - the Sanctuary of Bon Jesus do Monti.
