Description of the attraction
Baredine Cave is a karst cave, an amazing natural phenomenon. It is located in the west of Istria near the village of Nova Vas, five kilometers from the coast of the Adriatic Sea. In 1986, this cave was recognized as a natural monument of Croatia. It was opened for tourists in May 1995.
The first mention of the Baredine cave was reflected in the documents of its explorers - at the beginning of the 20th century, a group of brave speleologists from the city of Trieste descended to a depth of 80 m. And in 1973, speleologists from Porec discovered an underground lake in it. In the waters of this lake there are amazing creatures - "human fish". They are a species of salamanders and reach a length of 20 cm. This species is found only in the waters of this lake. They are called so because the color of their skins is similar to the color of human skin. The life expectancy of these fish is quite high - they live for almost 100 years. Also there you can find transparent small crabs.
The peculiar sculptures of stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave were formed as a result of salt deposits from water saturated with carbonates dripping from the ceiling. With a rich imagination and fantasy, in the bizarre pillars, you can see the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the statue of the Virgin, an incredible 10 meters high curtain and even dinosaur teeth.
The world of the cave is quite damp and cold - there is almost always a temperature of +14 degrees.
