Description of the attraction

The Chapel of Atonement in Monza in the Italian region of Lombardy was built as a memorial monument on the site where in 1900 the anarchist Gaetano Bresci killed King Umberto I. The chapel is located near the entrance to the Royal Villa between Via Regina Margherita and Via Matteo da Campione … The son of the murdered king, Vittorio Emmanuele III, entrusted the construction of the chapel to the elderly architect Giuseppe Sacconi, the author of the Roman monument to Vittoriano, but it was completed by her pupil Sacconi, Guido Cirilli. Cirilli modified Sacconi's original design somewhat and completed the work in 1910.

The stone Chapel of the Atonement, about 35 meters high, is crowned with an obelisk-like cross, on top of which you can see a bronze crown and royal symbols of the Savoyard dynasty. And at the entrance there is a sculptural composition "Pieta" by Lodovico Polyaga. The interior of the chapel is decorated with Byzantine-style mosaics and colored marble - here you can see images of angels, saints and members of the royal dynasty of Savoy. Around the chapel, there is a park surrounded by a wrought iron grill, the creation of Alessandro Mazzucotelli. Every year on July 29, the day of the assassination of Umberto I, a memorial ceremony takes place in the chapel, and at night the chapel itself is illuminated. Interestingly, there is another chapel in the world, built as a sign of atonement for the regicide - the Chapel at the atonement of the execution of King Louis XVI in Paris.

A memorial temple or a symbol of remorse for the sin of murder? Julia, I think that firstly, here we are talking about chapels, and not about large cathedrals. Secondly, not about Orthodox churches, but thirdly, let's see what the St. Petersburg church was built for. The site of the temple, for example, says In memory of the martyrdom of Emperor Alexander II at the site of his murder …

Why is there only one chapel? Dear, why is there only one more temple in the world? You have forgotten the Russian churches erected on the site of the regicides. First, in St. Petersburg there is a beautiful Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, at the place where Tsar Alexander II was mortally wounded. And the second church on blood in the name of All Saints in the Russian land shone …
