Description of the attraction

Located in Murmansk, the Museum of the Northern Navy is a famous military history museum. The museum was founded in the fall of October 16, 1946 with the support of the Federal State Institution of Art and Culture, as well as the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. A colossal work was done before the opening of the museum, which began in 1943. Accumulative work on the collection of material, as well as on its processing took place under the strict guidance of F. P. Drachkov. - a senior lieutenant, who took the initiative to collect all kinds of exhibits for their placement in the new museum of the Northern Fleet, located in the building of the former House of Officers.

The very first exposition of the museum presented to visitors was the exhibition entitled "Defense of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", which opened in 1946. During these years, about 150 publications have been published in print form, represented by leaflets, brochures, books, travel guides, calendars and booklets.

In the museum you can see models of some submarines, aircraft and surface ships from different years.

The museum exposition covers a time period that lasts from 1693 to the present day. In addition, the exhibition is located in eight spacious halls and tells about the sections: “The emergence of naval forces in the northern part of Russia. 1693 - 1922 "," Creation and formation of the Northern Fleet. 1923-1941 "," Merit of the Northern Fleet in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 "," The Northern Fleet - the defender of the maritime borders of Russia. 1945 - today”.
