Description of the attraction

St. John the Baptist Monastery is located almost at the exit from Staraya Ladoga, but its huge bright blue chapters are perfectly visible even from the Nikolsky Monastery. One temple has survived from the entire monastery - the huge Cathedral of the Nativity of John the Baptist, erected in 1695. The church is five-domed, cubic in shape, with a seven-sided altar apse. The decorative details of the building - blades, figured platbands - are made of bricks. Near the cathedral there is a pointed bell tower, also built at the end of the 17th century.

We were greeted by a very friendly hostess, who offered to see the whole complex, which includes both a cute home museum of folk life, and a souvenir shop, in which there are a lot of extraordinary souvenirs that are not found anywhere else. They explained to us that, basically, these are the works of local craftsmen and craftsmen of the Volkhov region. Then we visited the chapel of St. Peter and Fevroni. It turns out that the hostess's husband is an icon painter, he also has a workshop in this chapel, so we also saw how the icon was created. The children were very interested. We were allowed to wander around the territory, take pictures against the background of numerous flowers and natural objects. With pleasure we drank tea from a samovar with herbs and honey. We had our own food, but we were allowed to sit at the tables under the awning.

And what a stunning view of the surroundings from the high bank of the Volkhov!

For us, this place was just a discovery, how everything is cozy, cute and kindly arranged there.
