Description of the attraction
Pasonanka Park is located in the area of the same name in Zamboanga, also known as "Little Baguio in the South" (Baguio is the summer capital of the Philippines). The park, located at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level and surrounded by green hills, is one of the main attractions of the city. A small calm stream flows through the park, along the banks of which trees, bushes and flowers of amazing beauty have grown wildly - orchids alone are represented here by 600 species! The highlight of Pasonanka is a huge tree, at the top of which is hidden a small hut - you can even stay in this house for the night. The lodge was built in 1960 as a Youth Learning Center. Today it is visited by several thousand tourists a year.
The construction of Pasonanka Park began in 1912 under the leadership of the Governor of the Island of Mindanao, John Pershing, who for this purpose "ordered" specialists in landscape gardening from America. Today, there are three public swimming pools on the territory of the park - one is not inferior in size to the Olympic pools, the other is designed in the form of a fountain, and the third is intended for children. The water in the pools is constantly being renewed. And around there are picnic areas and gazebos, which, however, must be booked in advance. In addition to the pools, the park also has a local boy and girl scout camp and a stadium.
Another attraction of Pasonanka is the Maria Clara Lobregat Garden, named after the former mayor of Zamboanga. Here you can see collections of amazingly beautiful flowers - orchids and roses, as well as the Butterfly House, which contains several hundred of these graceful creations of nature. There is also a bird aviary in which parrots, turkeys, eagles and other birds live.
On the territory of Pasonanka, an excursion eco-trail with a length of 1.8 km has been laid, which leads to the highest point of the park, from where a wonderful view of the surrounding rain forest opens.
