Description of the attraction

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located at the cemetery in the village of Listvenka, Boksitogorsky District, Leningrad Region. The village of Listvenka is located on the left bank of the Kolp River. The population is 34 people. It is located near the Olesha - Somino highway, which goes to the Novaya Ladoga - Yaroslavl highway. The village has a street layout. In the vicinity of Listvenka, several sites of the Mesolithic era are known, which are the oldest in the east of the Leningrad region.

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an architectural monument of federal significance. The temple is one of the oldest church buildings in the Leningrad region. It was built in 1599. On the lower section of the iconostasis, an inscription has been preserved that says that "… the summer of September 7108 on the eighth day …", that is, in 1599 after the Nativity of Christ, a church was erected in the name of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos by the servant of the peasant of God D. Timofeev.

The church consists of three volumes: the temple itself, the altar and the refectory. The roof of the church and the cut-out are arranged on double fellings - extensions of the log cabins in the upper part. The roof of the refectory is simple, without second outlets.

In 1720 the church was rebuilt. There is an assumption that the construction of a refectory and a new porch for three ascents belongs to this period. In the altar and the temple itself, small drag windows have been preserved. The ancient appearance is characterized by a doorway from the temple to the refectory - wide slopes, in the center - a carved upper deck with a keeled frame. In the interior decoration, a carved choir and a tabla of the ancient iconostasis with images of saints and an inscription have been preserved.

In 1932, the Mother of God Church was closed. In 1990-1991, the church was repaired, the roof was replaced, the aging porch was strengthened. During the renovation work, we tried to preserve all the wooden decorations that are on the church. This is a carved top, which is located in the center of the building, platbands that go along the entire perimeter of the building and the porch. The small windows also remain the same.

The church was re-consecrated in 1992, and at the same time services were resumed here. Currently, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is active, services are held on schedule. The patronal feast is celebrated on September 21.
