Description of the attraction
In 1903, donations from the townspeople in the center of Perm began the construction of a new Church of the Ascension of the Lord with two adjacent side-chapels designed by the architect A. I. Ozhigov. The place for the temple was partly sold to the diocese, partly donated by the merchant A. P. Babalov, for which the people began to call the new building a merchant church. Alexander Pavlovich Balabalov, who ceded his estate for a temple, maintained workers' artels for the production of stone, stove, plastering and carpentry works. The construction of the Ascension-Feodosievskaya Church continued until 1910, and the entire period of its formation from 1904 to 1918, Stefan Bogoslovsky, who was repeatedly awarded by the spiritual departments, remained the rector of the church.
During the civil war, there was discord not only in the country, but also in the Perm church, the communities could not share a sufficiently spacious church. As a result, by the decision of the district executive committee in 1930, a resolution was adopted to rebuild the church into a bakery. In 1935. the plant was put into operation and operated until the end of the 1970s. Planning to place an organ hall in the church building, the authorities began to restore the facade. However, the restoration was delayed and in 1991 the building was returned to the believers.
Now the red-brick Ascension-Feodosievskaya church in the pseudo-Russian style with a hipped-roof bell tower can be seen on any souvenir products brought from Perm. An innovation in the restored church about three thrones is a bas-relief with the face of the Savior.
The building is a monument of architecture and urban planning.
