Description of the attraction
Parque de la Reserva is located in the center of Lima. Its irregularly shaped territory is located between the two main streets of the city, the Paseo de la República motorway and Arequipa avenue.
The 8 hectare park, designed in the neo-classical style by the French architect Claudome Sahut, displays a large number of works by Peruvian sculptors. Before the construction of the park began, this place housed part of the exhibition of a nearby large park. In 1926, at the direction of President Augusto Legia, construction began on the Parque de la Reserva in honor of the soldiers who defended Lima in the Pacific War in January 1881. The construction of the park was completed in 1929.
On the territory of Parque de la Reserva in 2007, the Fountain Complex "Magic of Water" - El Circuito-Magico del Agua was opened. The complex was part of a series of projects completed by the Mayor of Lima, Luis Castaneda Lossio, worth $ 13 million. This project has been criticized for its cost and design, as well as the need for a complete renovation of a park of great historical importance. In addition, the relatively high cost of the admission ticket was criticized. But during the year that the fountain complex was in operation, 2 million people came to see it.
Currently, "Magic of Water" is the world record holder among fountains: the complex consists of 13 different fountains, many of which are interactive. All fountains are illuminated at night with an ever-changing color scheme. The largest fountain throws a stream of water to a height of over 80 m.
Among the interesting fountains of the park is the Tunnel de las Sorpresas fountain, it is a water tunnel 35 m long. If you walk through the Fuente de los Niño fountain-tunnel, which connects the two parts of the park, you can get to the exhibition of the latest public works projects in Lima. Another interesting fountain Fuente de la Fantasia - its jets are synchronized with the music.
