Description of the attraction

Terevaka volcano with a height of 511 m is located on Easter Island, the highest and largest of the island's volcanoes. This volcano is one of the three main volcanoes on Easter Island and was "born" about 12,000 years ago. The last eruption of Terevaka volcano was about 10,000 years ago.

From the top of the Terevaka volcano, you can see the entire island, the volcano has a triangular shape, and a panoramic view of the horizon. It has several craters, of which the most important are Rano Aroi and Rano Raraku. Rano Aroi is filled with water - it turned out a lake with the name of the crater - Lake Rano Aroe. This crater of Terevaka volcano is the highest - 200 m.

Rano Raraku, with a height of 160 m and a diameter of 650 m, is also a lake. This lake is a large reservoir of fresh water, which is surrounded by reed beds.

At the base of Terevaka volcano there are more than 800 caves, including Ana-Te-Pahu. A lot of vegetation can be seen at the entrance to the cave. The Anna-Te-Pahu cave is also known as the Banana cave, Ana-te-Pora and Ana-Kakenga - a cave of two windows.

All around the base of the volcano you can find ceremonial sites for rituals, as well as other archaeological sites, they are important, but very difficult to get to, so they are not as famous as other archaeological sites in other parts of the island. The most important of these are Ahu-Wai-Mata and Maitaki-te-Moa.

To climb the Terevaka volcano, you can start your route near Ahu Akiva and continue up the southern slope to the summit. Once a week, as part of a tourist group, you can climb to the top by car. There is no road, you can just drive on the grass. If you stayed below and did not go with the tourist group by car, you can track the entire path of the group to the top of Terevaka volcano by the glowing headlights of the car.

You can visit Easter Island at any time of the year. The island's weather is mild, with temperatures ranging from 15 ° C to 26 ° C throughout the year. Hanga Roa (the only settlement on Easter Island) has an average of 140 days a year, but since the rocks are so porous, dirt isn't really a problem and rain won't cloud your trip to this wonderful island.
