Description of the attraction

The Muradiye Mosque is located in the city of Vlora, in the archaeological zone in one of the city centers, near the Flag Square. The object is located at the intersection of several streets and is clearly visible from all sides.

The construction date of the mosque is 1542, and this is one of the highest achievements of architecture of that period. The Muradiye Mosque is built of stone and brick blocks, which is reminiscent of the works of the architect Sinan in Istanbul. Two rows of cut stone alternate with two rows of bricks. The building is known for its simple wall lines, traditional window frames and entrance framing. Previously, the building had a porch, from which today only traces remain - the foundation and floor preserved at the northern wall. Another distinctive feature of this mosque is the domed "drum". The inner space of the mosque consists of a cubic prayer hall and a minaret. The hall is illuminated by windows located on three levels on each side. There is a mihrab in the southern part of the hall.

The entrance to the mosque is located on the north side, the minaret is in the northwest corner. The base of the minaret is built into the wall of the mosque. Traces of not very successful renovations are visible on the roof, the original masonry is stained with mortar.

Today the mosque performs its direct functions of a religious Muslim building - a place of prayer.
