Description of the attraction
Dechkova house - translated from Bulgarian “House of Dechkova” - is a monument of national life in Gabrovo of the 19th century sample. Also known as the House of Memories. The construction of the building, located near the stormy waters of the Yantra River, was completed by 1835. The center of the exhibition is the life of city leaders, industrialists and their family members, starting from the era of the national revival of Bulgaria.
The building was restored by experienced restorers and builders, historians monitored all the details of the furnishings: in each room there is furniture similar to the original. In addition, the interior decoration, including mirrors, clocks, paintings, curtains and textile accessories, gives the impression of true antiquity. The lighting is created using oil lamps, and the silver and crystal presented in the house-museum belong to one of the old families of Gabrovo.
Visitors to the museum can take pictures of fine furniture and antique costumes, as well as listen to compositions popular in the 19th century on the original turntable.
The house-museum includes several themed rooms: the mayor's office of the 1920s, a music room with a piano, a guest room for men, a ladies 'salon and a servants' room.
