Description of the attraction

National Theater. Vasile Alexandri, located in Balti (Balti), is the cultural and educational center of the city.

The history of the theater's creation dates back to 1957, when a troupe of 25 young Moldovan actors was created on the basis of the existing Russian drama theater. Their first production was the play "Kyritsa in Iasi", based on the work of Vasile Alexandri. In subsequent years, other talented actors joined the troupe, many of whom became famous far beyond the borders of the country - Efim Lazarev, Mihai Volontir, Jacob Burgiu, Dina Kocha and many others. The director and teacher Boris Kharchenko made a great contribution to the development and formation of the theater. Under his leadership, the theater presented such performances as "The Marriage" by N. Gogol, "Late Love" by A. Ostrovsky, "How They Loved" by A. Larev, "The Comedy of Errors" by V. Shakespeare and other productions …

In January 1990, the theater in Balti was one of the first in the Republic of Moldova to receive the title of National, and a year later it moved to a new building, the construction of which lasted 13 years. The building has two halls - small and large, each of which is equipped with a circular stage. The large hall is designed for 584 spectators, the small one can accommodate 60 spectators.

During the operation of the theater, its repertoire includes about two hundred performances for adults and children, staged based on the works of Russian and foreign classics and contemporaries. The theater rightfully bears the title of National, since it is on its stage that you can see the best performances based on the texts of authors from Moldova and Romania.

Much attention at the National Theater. Vasile Alexandri is also devoted to performances for children. Since 1994, a puppet troupe "Gîgîlici" has been operating on its basis.
