Description of the attraction
The city harbor of Vrsar is one of its main attractions. It acquired its present appearance in the 19th century. It was at this time that a large number of new buildings were built outside the city walls, which were located along the coast, often right next to the water line.
Medieval sources say that the area around the harbor was called Fabian. There were warehouses that belonged to the Porech diocese in the 12-17 centuries.
The archaeological area, where you can see the remains of Roman villas, begins at the Lima Canal and ends near Funtana. This is due to the fact that the ancient Roman settlement of Ursaria was located on the site of modern Vrsar. A large number of public buildings dating from the same time are also found around the bay. Remains of an ancient Roman cemetery have been discovered on the southern part of Montraker Point, bordering the harbor of Vrsar.
From the city harbor in Vrsar, the islet of St. George is clearly visible, on which the church of the same name stands.
