Karasan Palace

Description of the attraction

This wonderful palace combines the architecture of many countries and different eras. From the north, the old access road leads to the main façade of the palace. Faceted columns, protruding projection, huge "Moorish" windows, stained glass windows and stucco ornaments are the main decorations of the structure. On the left, near the northern facade, there is a wonderful extension with an internal staircase; the extension itself is decorated with wonderful marble boards, ornaments and a large "oriental" window.

The southern facade of the castle, which is also a park one, was made in the style of a “country house”; this façade is located in front of the sea. The facade is decorated with a large number of balconies, which are distinguished by their ornaments in the form of exquisite wood carvings, and columns with beautiful openwork patterns and arches. There is an amazing terrace here, you can climb it with the help of stone stairs, they are placed symmetrically. From here you can admire the wonderful sea horizons.

A huge wooden balcony supported by decorative supports adorns the western façade. Balconies of this type have been preserved in Bakhchisarai, in the premises of the harem. They served so that Eastern women could watch what was happening on the street.

A small domed tower is located above the eastern façade. It is connected to a 16-window gallery. Once upon a time, a balcony was placed in front of the tower, from which one could look at the wonderful Cape Plaka and the mountains, but, alas, the balcony was destroyed in 1927 as a result of a strong earthquake. A strong earthquake damaged not only the balcony, but also the walls of the palace: they were covered with cracks. Fireplaces, antique clocks, ornaments on the walls, various panels and stairs are all that remain from the details of the front room.

The old English park has been preserved in good condition to this day, some call it "landscape". This park surrounds the palace from all sides; more than two hundred and twenty plants from different continents grow in the park, there are also rare plants.

Since 1924, the premises of the palace housed "Karasan" - the famous sanatorium. When the air temperature rises strongly, the aromas of the sea and pine needles mix in the park, such air is useful for people with respiratory problems.

Near the park and the palace there is an estate owned by Princess Gagarina. After walking a couple of kilometers to the south, you can see the estate of Emperor Alexander III, a little further the Vorontsov Palace is located.
