Mount Savin Kuk

Description of the attraction

Mount Savin Kuk rises as high as possible at its highest point - 2312 meters. At an altitude of 2287 meters (to the left) there is Bear Peak. The mountain is surrounded on all sides by beautiful nature, lakes and rocks. From the eastern part of the mountain there is a view of the beautiful Lake Plateau, which is also called the Clean Side, from the southern part - to Sljeme, 2455 meters high, from the western part - to the Big Valley, from the north - to the Small Valley.

The name of the mountain Savin Kuk comes from the name of the prince of Serbia Rastko Nemanichi, who left his worldly life and went to a monastery. There he was given the spiritual name Sava. Over the years of his service, he became a spiritual leader in Serbia and was declared a saint during his lifetime.

In the winter season there are well-equipped ski trails, and in the summer there are many opportunities for hikers in the mountains and for mountain climbers.

Mount Savin Kuk has a mountain center on its territory, which is considered one of the least expensive in the Balkans. The beginning of the ski slopes is at 2313 meters, and their total length is 5 km. For tourists and their convenience, there are two cable cars and a number of lifts (including children).

Anyone can make a hiking ascent to Savin Kuk. The path that leads to the peak was laid at the beginning of the 20th century by King Nicholas I of Montenegro. The slopes of this mountain have a source of pure water, Savina water, which, according to legend, also has healing powers.

There are several routes for ascent, but the most optimal one is Black Lake (height 1416 m), Izvor spring, then Tochak and after it Mioch Polyana, then Savina water and a peak at 2313 m. On average, the duration of such an ascent is 4 hours, with the difference in elevation is about 900 meters. Such an ascent can be made almost in any month, but it is important to remember that it is possible to meet with strong winds, deep snow and low temperatures at high altitudes.

Anyone who loves cross-country skiing can take advantage of special trails on the slopes of Savina Kuk, which are about 3-12 km long. The length of the main ski route is about three and a half kilometers, and the vertical drop is 750 meters.

Among all the tracks available here, you can find suitable for any difficulty of skiing: for beginners, for recreation, sports and for extreme lovers. In addition to them, there are special tracks for children and snowboarders on the mountain. Some even have lighting for skating at night.
