Description of the attraction

Jau National Park is located in the Amazon state. This is one of the largest parks in Brazil. Jau was founded in 1980 and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. In 2003, after merging with other protected areas, it was included in the Central Amazonian nature reserve complex.

Jau includes the territories of several ecosystems of the Amazon: low floodplains flooded for many months, high floodplains that periodically flood, and never flooded areas of the interfluve. It is this morphology of the relief that determines the nature of the flora and fauna. The diversity of the fauna is also influenced by the "black rivers". They are deeper than usual, the water in them is transparent with a dark tint due to the remnants of decaying plants.

Jau is famous for its diversity of flora. Up to 180 different plant species are found per hectare of forest. There are only about 5 tiers of plants in the forest, of which three are trees. All kinds of palms - elephant, pashiuba, irriatrei, pirihuao - make up the upper tiers. Here you can also find a wide variety of ficuses and representatives of the legume family. The typically Brazilian Milk tree also grows in large numbers in the protected park. It is known for its sweet fruit that tastes like milk. Grow in Zhau chocolate tree (cocoa), mahogany, ferns, various types of bromeliads, lymphoids. Often there are giant fragrant flowers, trees and shrubs intertwined with lianas and aerial roots.

A large number of animals also live in the park, among them sloths, anteaters, manatees, possums, armadillos, crocodile and black caimans.

There are many eco-tours in the Jau National Park. Their duration is different: from a couple of hours to several days. Tourists are offered hunting, fishing, horseback riding and hiking, boat excursions.
